About Us

IWOC is a non-profit professional association of freelance writers and book authors who are located primarily in the Chicago metropolitan area. Our members who are independent writers represent a broad range of writing specialties and serve large corporations, small businesses, news organizations, and not-for-profit organizations not only throughout Chicagoland but around the world. IWOC's book authors write in a wide spectrum of genres.

To support our members and help them succeed in their businesses and aspirations, IWOC provides information and tools in the form of regular meetings and online resources, fosters fellowship among our members with social events, and promotes exposure and employment opportunities via our Find a Writer member directory, list of member websites, and Writers’ Line job board. We also maintain a Blog page to help members and the general public stay informed of our organization as well as of topics related to the craft and business of writing.

Our Mission

The mission of IWOC is twofold:

1) To help members succeed as independent writers and in authoring books.

2) To be the go-to resource for clients in search of skilled, professional writers who match their needs.
