Join us as IWOC member and public relations specialist Betsy Storm leads a panel of speakers to give us an inside look at the ABCs of PR—including: how to pitch clients, how to break into PR, how to develop strong media relationships, and much more.

Public relations is (rather formally) defined as “a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics.” But when it comes down to simple language, PR is all about relationship building, engagement, and persuasion— best achieved via a solid journalistic approach.

Essentially, PR is a powerful way for companies, organizations or individuals to enhance their reputations. It usually involves the ability of a PR pro to communicate intelligently and creatively with members of the media (from CNN to a neighborhood blogger) to present one’s clients in the most favorable way possible.

As Bill Gates famously said, “If I were down to my last dollar, I’d spend it on public relations.”

Networking, with snacks and beverages, begins at 5:00 p.m., followed by the program at 6:00 p.m.

The meeting is free for IWOC members. Non-members pay $10 with online preregistration/payment or $15 at the door.

All attendees are welcome to join us for a buy-your-own dinner at a nearby restaurant after the meeting.

Meeting Location

IWOC monthly meetings are held in Room 4F at the Gratz Center, 126 E. Chestnut Street, adjacent to the historic Fourth Presbyterian Church (see map, below).
